Job summary

University of Amsterdam's Biosystems Data Analysis group invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to develop and benchmark quantum-computing approaches for bioinformatics challenges. You will work within the Q-MMD program, joining an interdisciplinary team advancing quantum and hybrid quantum-classical methods in biology.

You will lead prototype design, benchmarking, and dissemination of methods, with connections to quantum infrastructure and industry partners when appropriate.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, quantum information/quantum computing, computational chemistry, applied mathematics, physics, or a closely related field.
• strong programming and computational research skills; experience building reproducible analysis or simulation workflows.
• expertise in quantum computation or bioinformatics/computational biology with motivation to learn the other domain.

Responsibilities

• Develop quantum-algorithm prototypes within existing bioinformatics workflows and benchmark them against state-of-the-art classical approaches.
• Design reproducible proof-of-concept studies, implement prototypes and evaluate on simulated or real datasets.
• Compare accuracy, scalability, resource requirements and scientific usefulness with strong classical baselines; identify opportunities and limitations.
• Collaborate with researchers, Lead Scientist Quantum Applications, and wider quantum ecosystem at UvA.
