Job description

QLever is building the software platform that sits between quantum algorithms and the hardware that runs them — enabling developers and researchers to build, optimize, and deploy quantum applications across architectures. Our work is grounded in deep theory, developed in close collaboration with leading academic institutions, and built to accelerate the path to fault-tolerant quantum computing.

We are looking for a Quantum Algorithms Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantum information theory and/or quantum algorithm design, combined with a genuine interest in seeing that work translated into software that runs on real hardware. You will work at the scientific core of what we build — shaping both the theoretical foundations and their path to implementation.

What you'll do

Your work will contribute to developing and extending the scientific foundations underpinning our compilation approach. This may include theoretical research, algorithm design, resource analysis, and working directly with the engineering team to turn formal results into working code. You will also contribute to publications and grant applications.

We're a small team, which means the scope of the role will naturally evolve. We value flexibility and are looking for someone who is happy to work across different aspects of the science and to contribute to the broader growth of the company.

What we're looking for
  • Expertise in quantum information and/or computation theory, with a strong grounding in quantum circuits and complexity
  • Good understanding of algorithms and algorithmic analysis
  • Ability to work independently on research problems while contributing to a collaborative team
  • Flexibility to work across different aspects of the science and to take on tasks that support the growth of the company
  • PhD / MSc in quantum information, quantum computation, computer science, or a closely related field
  • Experience translating theoretical results into code — proficiency in quantum programming environments such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, or similar
  • Familiarity with algebraic or categorical approaches to quantum computation
  • Experience with quantum hardware constraints at the physical or gate level
  • Prior experience in an industry or startup environment alongside academic work
What we offer

Competitive market salary, meaningful equity options, and the chance to work on theory that directly shapes a real product. You'll collaborate closely with our Chief Science Officer and have genuine influence over the scientific direction of the company from early on. Hybrid out of Amsterdam — flexible for the right person.
