Job summary

Almaviva Group in The Hague, Netherlands, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to develop web solutions using Python and to maintain SQL Server based data pipelines. You will migrate Access VBA components and contribute to ETL processes and BI reporting.

Responsibilities include collaborating with global teams, writing technical docs, ensuring secure coding practices, and leveraging Power BI for operational insights. Onsite delivery is required in the EU; EU citizenship preferred.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Solid foundation in software and database development for data pre-processing and automation.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years with Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, schema design, stored procedures).
• Proficiency with Python and web/frameworks for data manipulation and automation.
• Proficiency with VBA applications (Excel, Access) and automation scripting.
• Knowledge of full stack design, Power BI data modelling and reporting.
• ETL and data-prep technologies including SSIS, Power Query, Neo4j ETL tools.
• Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure coding practices.
• Experience in containerisation with Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.
• Ability to communicate in a multilingual, international environment.

Job Responsibilities

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, with practical knowledge in software development, databases, and small-scale system design. A solid foundation in software and database development is required to support data pre-processing and automation of business activities.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in software development
• At least 5 years of professional experience with Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, schema design, stored procedures, performance tuning).
• Proficiency with Python and frameworks for web development, data manipulation and automation.
• Proficiency with VBA applications (Excel, Access) including VBA scripting for developing automation scripts, data import/export utilities, and pre-processing tools.
• Good knowledge of the design, documentation and development of full stack solutions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI (data modelling, DAX, dashboards, reporting) for providing advanced visualization and reporting capabilities to support operational analysis.
• Proficiency in ETL processes and data-preparation technologies, including tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Power Query and Neo4j data-import or ETL utilities.
• Good working knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Good working knowledge of relational database development, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server, including data modelling, schema design, T-SQL, stored procedures, functions and query optimisation.
• Good working knowledge of application security, authentication, and authorisation concepts, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
• Good knowledge of agile software development methodologies with practical experience using Azure DevOps for backlog management, planning, source control, CI/CD pipelines and work tracking.
• Good knowledge and display of prerequisites of working in a flexible environment including participation in multi-lingual meetings, ease of communication, exposure to an international/multi-cultural environment, etc.
• Good knowledge of preparing and maintaining technical documentation for developed solutions.
• Good working knowledge of containerisation using Docker. Familiarity with container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes is an advantage.
