Job summary

ExxonMobil Netherlands seeks a Public & Government Affairs Manager to shape reputation and social license at the community level. You will lead socioeconomic programs, budgeting processes, and emergency response planning, aligning with site objectives to support a responsible and sustainable operation.

You will proactively engage with communities, stakeholders and influencers, oversee grievances, and coordinate media engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience in reputation management, stakeholder engagement with communities, government, NGOs and media.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Experience managing community investments, grievances and emergency response.
• Strong writing, editing and storytelling across multiple media platforms.

Day-to-day and Administrative Guidance: Netherlands Public & Government Affairs Manager

Purpose

Play a critical role in shaping, protecting, and enhancing the company’s reputation and social license to operate primarily at the community level. Lead the development of Socioeconomic Management initiatives for communities around the site, support planning and budgeting processes, support emergency response efforts, and managing local and some national media engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver socioeconomic programs, investments, and strategic initiatives aligned with business objectives, the corporate operating model, and community priorities.
• Proactively engage with communities, local groups and influencers to build mutual trust and understanding, and to monitor reactions, needs and perceptions.
• Oversee the community grievance management process; capture issues and grievances and working with internal teams to address them appropriately.
• Support site emergency/ incident management, including stakeholder communications and community preparedness initiatives.
• Lead delivery of communications and media relating to ExxonMobil Netherlands.
• Provide expert, trusted advice to leadership on general Public & Government Affairs risks, opportunities, and approaches.
• Collaborate across teams to identify opportunities for proactive storytelling.
• Anticipate and manage sensitive issues with timely and effective responses.
• Support planning, budgeting and reporting processes for Netherlands, Belgium/EU affiliates.
• Maintain solid governance and controls environment.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in reputation management, stakeholder engagement (community, government, NGOs, media relations/communications, other key traditional and non-traditional stakeholders), emergency response support and crisis communications.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with both senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of local communities and cultural dynamics.
• Experience managing community investments, grievance management and emergency response.
• Understanding of the media landscape and digital communication trend supported by excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills across multiple media platforms.
• Experience in budgeting, financial management and reporting.
• Sound judgement and ability to perform under pressure.
• Fluent in Dutch and English languages.
• Experience measuring the impact of community investment programs (e.g., Social Return on Investment).
• Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills across multiple platforms, including social media.
