Job summary

FairPlay Engineering is seeking a Proposal Engineer to translate complex client questions into feasible, competitive solutions across Power Conversion, Electrical and Instrumentation, and Control and Automation.

You will work with Sales, Procurement, and engineers to develop technically sound and commercially viable proposals, with international travel as needed and a relocation package to the Netherlands.

Qualifications

• Experience in a technical inside sales or proposal role.
• Strong technical knowledge in electrical/control/automation.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Our client is an international supplier of technological solutions across Power Conversion, Electrical and Instrumentation, and Control and Automation. With over 85 years of history and a strong reputation in energy, oil and gas, and defence markets, they design, assemble, and install electrical distribution systems and process control equipment for use in complex and remote installations. Their work spans green hydrogen production at multi-megawatt scale, sustainable hybrid energy systems for the oil and gas market, and a broad portfolio of innovative international projects. Based in the Netherlands with approximately 100 permanent staff, they are a technically driven organisation with short communication lines and genuine scope for individual contribution.

Vacancy Information

As Proposal Engineer, you will translate complex technical client questions into feasible solutions and competitive offers. You will work closely with Sales, Procurement, and engineers from multiple disciplines on projects spanning Power Conversion, Electrical and Instrumentation, and Control and Automation. Depending on the size and complexity of a project, you will work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team on solutions that are ultimately realised across global markets.

This is a pivotal role within the organisation. You sit at the intersection of technical depth and commercial delivery, and the quality of what you produce directly influences which projects the business wins and how well set up they are from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Analysing technical specifications and client requests to understand project requirements and identify the right approach.
• Determining proposal strategy and approach in close collaboration with the Sales Manager.
• Developing technical concepts and solutions that are both technically sound and commercially competitive.
• Coordinating with engineers, suppliers, and other disciplines to ensure all inputs are integrated effectively.
• Integrating multiple technical disciplines into a single coherent and deliverable solution.
• Developing proposals, cost price calculations, and project budgets to the required standard.

What You Need

• Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Relevant working experience in a technical inside sales or proposal role within a commercially oriented engineering environment.
• Solid technical knowledge with a preference for electrical, control, or automation related backgrounds.
• The ability to work independently on smaller proposals and within multidisciplinary teams on more complex projects.
• Comfortable with occasional international travel as projects require.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
