  • Acting as the primary point of contact for one or more projects, you will work closely with project leaders and team members both within and outside UMC Utrecht.
  • Across all project phases, you will oversee non-scientific, administrative, financial, and contractual obligations, as well as technical and financial reporting and project amendments, acting as a liaison between the organization, project staff, and funders.
  • Maintain a central overview, set the right priorities and work closely with support services such as project financial control and legal affairs.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You will among others prepare project meetings and coordinate reporting cycles, act as the main contact point for the funders and project partners and monitor the progress and risks of the project.
  • You will work closely with dissemination and communication experts to bridge the consortium with the relevant stakeholders, via workshops and symposia.
  • You will join the Funding & Support team within the Research Office, working closely alongside 13 project managers with varying levels of experience to foster mutual support and knowledge exchange, while contributing to the development of templates and the improvement of our services.
  • We are therefore looking for a results-driven professional and committed team player who is eager to take ownership and to invest in their development. Junior project managers will work closely with one of our experienced project managers and fast-track their expertise by learning directly from the top specialists in this field.

The Research Office (RO) is part of the Directorate Policy & Strategy of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The Research Office provides strategic advice on development, implementation and evaluation of science policy within UMC Utrecht.

Team Funding & Support (F&S) is a part of the Research Office and focuses on advising and supporting the development of grant applications (pre-award) and management of awarded projects (post-award). The project manager will be placed within the post-award branch of F&S which currently counts 15 colleagues (13 project managers and 2 research communication officers) and is growing. Overall, over 30 research professionals work in the Funding & Support team.

Funding & Support empowers researchers and innovators by simplifying and professionalizing the research funding journey. We enable high-quality, strategically aligned, and externally funded research and innovation projects by concentrating internal expertise, improving processes, and acting as trusted guides and guards in the grant landscape.

Within our team we highly value our open team culture in which colleagues can thrive. We support each other strongly and share our knowledge and experience. We feel connected to each other, coffee breaks and catching up with your colleagues is part of your daily routine.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, decisive colleague with excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills; someone who is proactive, flexible, and capable of forming independent judgments.

You enjoy teamwork and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You are professional and reliable, able to work in a multicultural environment, and skilled at negotiating and maintaining harmonious collaborations and partnerships with diverse parties in complex internal and external settings.

You can easily switch between tasks while keeping priorities in clear view. You know when to coordinate with colleagues and internal/external stakeholders, have a keen eye for detail, and work in a structured and organized manner.

Your writing skills in both English and Dutch are excellent. You are good with numbers and able to maintain oversight of complex consortium budgets and tasks and advise on adjustments as necessary. You can work independently when needed, but are also open to guidance from experienced team members and keen to share your insights to sharpen the team's expertise.

We are looking for a colleague with ability to focus on priorities, who is pro-active, flexible and, enjoys working in an international team, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are eager to learn and dare to ask questions, no matter the size of the issue.
