Job summary

Damen Shipyards Group, through its Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) Project Management Department, seeks an enthusiastic Project Manager to lead multi-disciplinary teams and ensure on-time delivery within budget and according to quality standards across international yards.

You will coordinate engineering, supply chain and production activities, manage risks and report status to stakeholders while collaborating with Damen units and partner yards to deliver vessels built at non-Damen yards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant field such as Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Technology or Electrical & Automation.
• Proven project management experience in a multi-disciplinary environment, preferably maritime.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Kick off projects and define scope, plans and deliverables with the project team.
• Monitor progress of engineering, supply chain and production to ensure on-time delivery within budget.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation actions; report status to stakeholders regularly.
• Manage a multi-disciplinary team and oversee engineering, procurement and production activities.
• Improve processes and products and ensure contractual requirements are met.

Career at Damen

Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) is a sub-division of the Offshore and Specialized Vessel Division and enables the Damen Group to generate income out of intellectual property and processes available within the Damen Group.

The DTC business model enables customers to build ships for, and in, their own markets. The DTC products and services include Damen design licenses, engineering packages, materials, consultancy, technical support, training or a combination of these. Its aim is to develop long-term relationships by turning customers into partners. DTC customers are end-users such as ship owners and governments, shipyards, and other Damen divisions.

DTC can adapt existing, proven and new Damen designs to meet specific local needs and requirements. With extensive knowledge of all the elements involved in executing projects on customers' premises, DTC provides information and advice on how to execute a shipbuilding project in a controlled way. The main focus is on proven Damen products.

As Project Manager, you will be assigned to the DTC Project Management Department and will report to the Manager Projects DTC. The Project Management department within Damen Technical Cooperation is responsible for the execution of contracts, which can vary in scope for every project. Most projects include at least an engineering package, material package and technical support.

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, communicative Project Manager for our DTC Project Management Department.

As Project Manager within Damen Technical Cooperation, you will play a vital role in the successful delivery of our services, enabling vessel construction at a non-Damen yard. It is your task to guarantee on-time delivery, within budget, and in accordance with the quality specifications set by different stakeholders.

As a Project Manager you will manage a multi-disciplinary team and be accountable for managing the engineering, supply chain and sometimes also production activities for vessels built at international yards.

Key accountabilities

Your tasks & responsibilities as Project Manager include:

• Assisting in kicking off the project, determining the scope of work and drawing up the project plans and deliverables in collaboration with a Project Team;
• Monitoring progress of Engineering, deliverables of Supply Chain and progress of Production to ensure timely delivery of the vessel(s) to customers;
• Identifying project risks and determining mitigation actions;
• Informing stakeholders on a regular basis with project status regarding timing, quality, risks, costs and contractual requirements;
• Managing disturbances in the process which might impact time, quality and costs;
• Delivering services to clients, fulfilling contractual requirements and handing over the project after successful delivery to the Services department responsible for the warranty project;
• Following up the vessel during the warranty phase to ensure feedback for product improvement;
• Improving processes and products at design and detail level in relation to the various sub-processes, such as the engineering, construction, and procurement processes, and reducing failure costs while improving quality.

Skills & experience

• Bachelor or Master preferable in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Technology or Electric and automation;
• Proven experience in Project Management in a multi-disciplinary team;
• Preferably at least 3-5 years experience in a similar position, preferably in a Maritime environment;
• The ability to set priorities, take a process-centered approach, and maintain overview;
• Organizational skills, a quality-conscious focus and a flexible and customer-oriented personality;
• Team player who is able to oversee the red lines in project and is socially skilled, motivating the team to go the extra mile;
• Result oriented with a keen eye for organizational sensitivity;
• Communicative with all levels from production to executive level;
• Good communication skills, both oral and written, in both Dutch and English.
