Job Specification – Project Manager (Engineering Delivery)
1. Job Purpose
The Project Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of complex technology initiatives through the effective coordination and management of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
The role acts as the primary link between business stakeholders, architecture teams, engineering teams, operational functions, vendors, and programme leadership, ensuring that technical solutions are delivered in line with business objectives, architectural standards, security requirements, and operational needs.
The Project Manager is accountable for planning, coordinating, tracking, governing, and reporting on the delivery of technology solutions whilst enabling engineering teams to focus on technical design, build, testing, and implementation activities.
The team size is medium - between 4-5 back‑end engineers.
The role manages delivery plans, resources, milestones, dependencies, risks, budgets, stakeholder communications, and governance across the full project lifecycle from initiation through implementation and operational handover.

3. Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Project Management certification (PRINCE2, PMP, MSP or equivalent) preferred.
4.Experience
- 5+ years' experience delivering complex technology or transformation programmes.
- Proven experience managing software development, cloud, infrastructure, platform, or integration projects.
- Experience leading cross‑functional engineering delivery teams.
- Experience managing technical dependencies across multiple workstreams.
- Experience operating within large‑scale enterprise environments.
- Experience working with internal and external delivery partners.
- Experience managing budgets, forecasts, risks, and stakeholder governance.
- Experience delivering projects using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.
- Experience coordinating software delivery lifecycles including development, testing, release, deployment, and operational transition.
5.Knowledge
- Strong understanding of project and programme management methodologies.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles.
- Familiarity with modern engineering, cloud, API, automation, integration, and platform delivery environments.
- Understanding of Agile delivery frameworks, DevOps principles, and release management processes.
- Knowledge of governance, security, compliance, privacy, and operational risk management practices.
- Understanding of enterprise architecture and system integration landscapes.
- Awareness of AI, cloud computing, microservices, APIs, and data platform concepts sufficient to manage delivery activities and dependencies.

Note:
Deep hands‑on technical expertise is not required. The role is expected to effectively manage engineering delivery by understanding delivery impacts, dependencies, risks, resource requirements, and stakeholder outcomes rather than performing technical design or development activities.

- Comfortable working with reporting dashboards, KPIs, RAID logs, and programme governance artefacts.

- Experience using collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Miro, and related enterprise productivity tools.
Engineering Team Capability Managed by this Role
Whilst not expected to be hands‑on, the Project Manager will manage a medium sized team delivering capabilities such as:
- RAG (Retrieval‑Augmented Generation) solutions
- Azure OpenAI and LLM‑enabled platforms
- Vector databases and retrieval systems
- AWS cloud platforms and infrastructure
- CI/CD pipelines and GitHub‑based delivery

The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordination, governance, dependency management, resource alignment, risk management, stakeholder communication, and successful delivery of these capabilities rather than the hands on technical and software delivery.
