Who we are supporting
The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO’s member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:
- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
- Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO's information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.

The program
Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

RoleDuties and Responsibilities
Software configuration
- Assistsin designing, verifying, documenting,amendingand refactoring moderately complex software configurations for deployment.
- Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
- Collaborates in reviews of work with others asappropriate.
System software
- Monitors operational systems for resource usage and failure rates, to inform andfacilitatesystem software tuning.
- Applies system software parameters to maximise throughput and efficiency.
- Installs and tests new versions of system software.
- Contributes to preparation of software implementation procedures with fall back contingency plans.
Network support
- Carries out agreed network maintenance tasks and specified operational configuration of network components.
- Establish and diagnose network problems/faults using the required troubleshootingmethodologyand tools.
- Uses network management software and tools to collect agreed performance and traffic statistics.
Systems installation and removal
- Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using suppliedinstallation instructions and tools, including handover to the client.
- Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to testinstallations, correct problems, and documentresults.
- Records details of all components that have been installed andremoved.
- Assistsusers and follows agreed procedures for further help orescalation.
- Contributes to the development of installation procedures andstandards.
Release and deployment
- Uses approved tools and techniques for specific deploymentactivities.
- Administers the recording of activities, logging of results anddocuments technical activities undertaken.
- The Principal Technician (ICT Systems) will provide 24/7Immediate On-Call Response to the Service Operations withtechnical AirC2expertiseand solutions at Level 2 support withticket response and resolutions that will meet current operationalneeds and defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- The Principal Technician (ICT Systems) will work as an on-siteintegrated member of the assigned service team, when not on 24/7on-call duty for immediate ticket response and resolution. He willhelp with the design, development,testand on-site support ofengineering changes to services, processes, organisation,operatingmodeland other aspects. This effort may berequiredinaddition to his/her daily service operations and maintenance tasks.
EssentialSkills,Experienceand Certifications
Education:
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience. Or a secondary educational qualification with 5yearspost-related experience.
Experience:
- At least 3 years practical experience of implementation andmaintenance of ICT end systems within a large organization.
- Good experienceconfiguring hardware and software.
- Good understanding of ICT systems and the ability to workindependently to solve problems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting technical issues andproviding technical support to end-users.
- Hands-on experience on troubleshooting technical issues andproviding technical support to end-users.
- Network configuration, debugging trouble shouting (TCP/IP,VPN,VLAN,firewall, DNS).
- Cybersecurity infrastructure understanding.
- Hardware and software configuration of Server hosting platforms,custom disk configurations with specific storage controllers, RAIDconfiguration, redundancy management.
- Overall Strong analytical and problem-solving skills on:
- Remote server administration
- Network tool usage (Wireshark)
Training:
- ITIL foundation or advanced level training and certification.
