Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience with SPI and AVEVA engineering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop safe, reliable instrumentation solutions independently, aligned with project requirements.
  • Resolve complex technical instrumentation issues and ensure delivery of objectives.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and promote knowledge transfer and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Discipline Managers and teams to continuously improve quality and engineering processes.
  • Take responsibility for assigned instrumentation scopes and act as Discipline Lead when required.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for instrumentation with clients and stakeholders.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Principal Instrumentation Engineer to join our engineering team in Rotterdam. In this hands-on role, you will apply your technical expertise to develop safe, reliable and high-quality instrumentation solutions for complex offshore oil & gas projects, with a strong focus on FPSO systems and marine instrumentation.

You will work closely with project teams, discipline leads, clients and other stakeholders while contributing to technical excellence, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop safe, reliable and high-quality instrumentation solutions independently, in line with project and discipline requirements.
  • Resolve complex technical instrumentation issues and ensure successful delivery of project and engineering objectives.
  • Act as a technical advisor and mentor to less experienced engineers, supporting knowledge transfer and the application of best practices.
  • Collaborate with Discipline Managers, Discipline Leads and engineering teams to continuously improve quality, efficiency and engineering processes.
  • Maintain and develop your technical expertise by staying up to date with the latest industry developments, technologies and engineering practices.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned from projects, the fleet and new technology developments.
  • Take responsibility for assigned instrumentation scopes and, where applicable, act as a Discipline Lead, Technical Expert or Engineering Method Authority.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for instrumentation matters with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the successful execution of EPC projects through practical, hands-on engineering expertise.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical or Control Engineering.

Experience

  • 10-12+ years of progressive instrumentation engineering experience within the oil & gas industry.
  • Extensive experience in offshore oil & gas instrumentation engineering; candidates with 25+ years of experience are particularly welcome for Principal-level positions.
  • Strong FPSO experience is highly preferred.
  • Candidates with FLNG experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with fixed offshore platforms or fixed offshore wind installations alone is not considered a suitable match.
  • Proven EPC experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of FPSO systems and marine instrumentation.
  • Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and AVEVA engineering tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of hazardous area design and functional safety, including IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
