Job description

As a Principal Electronics Engineer at ASMPT, you will work on something that does not yet exist: the electrical architecture of a completely new platform within our latest generation of Advanced Packaging machines. This is not an improvement of an existing machine, but true pioneering. If you are passionate about turning technically complex ideas into reality and eager to make an impact, this position offers the perfect opportunity to apply your skills.

You will define and own the electrical architecture of our system. This includes power distribution, motion and actuation electronics, sensor and metrology signal chains, and control electronics. Your goal is to ensure the accuracy and throughput our customers require. This position requires a high abstraction level, combining technical leadership, design expertise, and hands‑on engineering to drive the creation of cutting‑edge machines that will shape the future of electronics manufacturing.

You will work within a growing team where you can truly make an impact. You will have the freedom to introduce and develop your own ideas, with ample opportunity for feedback and refinement from our team. You will work closely with our colleagues in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as with external development partners in the Netherlands. Together we form the driving force behind machines that are deployed worldwide in high‑tech industries.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Principal Electronics Engineer, you own the end‑to‑end electrical architecture and ensure that performance is predictable, realizable, and scalable. Your efforts are instrumental in achieving high throughput while maintaining ultra‑precise, reliable machine operation.

  • Define and own the electrical architecture: power distribution, motion/actuation electronics, sensor and metrology signal chains, control electronics, and system interconnect.
  • Make and document architecture‑level trade‑offs (performance, noise/EMC, thermal, cost, manufacturability, serviceability) and defend them at design reviews.
  • Translate system‑level requirements (precision, throughput, uptime) into electrical subsystem specifications, and ensure subsystem designs stay consistent with the overall architecture.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop functional modules and ensure alignment with ASMPT teams in Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • Support system integration and qualification of machine prototypes and first production units; ensure machines meet performance specifications during initial production.
  • Guide root‑cause analysis and design‑for‑reliability efforts for electrical issues found in integration, qualification, or field use.
  • Establish and evolve the electrical engineering Ways of Working as the team grows, ensuring consistent design quality, effective reviews and knowledge sharing across the competence group.
  • Guide and mentor junior and medior electronics engineers as the team expands.
  • Occasional international travel to collaborate with product development centers in Asia and development partners in Europe.

THIS IS YOU

  • Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in high‑tech machine development, ideally in the semiconductor industry, with a track record of owning system‑level electrical architecture.
  • Proven expertise in electrical architecture for high‑precision motion and control systems (nanometer domain); experience in equipment manufacturing and E‑plan is a plus.
  • A multidisciplinary thinker with an open‑minded approach, excelling in communication and collaboration across various technical domains.
  • You are a self‑starting person and enjoy balancing system‑level thinking with hands‑on engineering.
  • Strong ability to work effectively in teams while also being capable of independently driving technical solutions and initiatives.
  • Fluent in English; speaking Dutch is a plus.

The position level (Senior or Principal) will be determined based on your experience, skills, and professional background.

WE OFFER

  • A full‑time position (32 - 40 hours per week) at an international high‑tech company, where innovation and manufacturing solutions are key.
  • An attractive salary aligned with your knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Excellent employee benefits like travel allowance, a bicycle scheme and a premium pension scheme.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth through training and development programs.
  • A dynamic, collaborative work environment with friendly colleagues and exciting, multidisciplinary projects.
  • 25 vacation days and 3 additional days off.
  • We offer you the flexibility to work remotely one or two days a week.
  • We provide all the necessary hardware and software, including a laptop and phone, to ensure you have everything you need to succeed.
  • We like to think that we are fun to work with. Besides working together, we enjoy different activities with our team on a regular basis.
