Job summary

ML6 is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to shape the strategy and execution of AI offerings across CX and Emerging domains. You will lead high-visibility, high-impact projects, interact with executive stakeholders, and drive AI solutions at scale across Europe.

The role combines technical leadership with business strategy and client-facing excellence. You will own domain strategy, win large deals, guide complex projects, and act as a thought leader within ML6 and at industry events.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in tech or consultancy with a proven track record of delivering large and complex AI/software projects.
• GenAI, conversational AI, and/or agentic systems with a clear interest in customer-facing use cases and emerging technologies.
• Strong understanding of enterprise technology landscapes, and the organizational realities of implementing AI solutions at scale.
• Comfortable commanding room presence with executive stakeholders (CTO/C-level) and owning pre-sales technical design.
• A strategic mindset with the ability to bridge the gap between technical solutions and business value, effectively communicating with both technical teams and C-level executives.
• Exceptional conflict resolution skills and the ability to ensure resolution in critical situations.
• A proactive and self-starting leader who thrives on taking full ownership of projects, teams, and domains.
• Strong communication skills in English (extra plus when speaking a local language like Dutch or German)

As a Principal Engineer, you will further build out the strategy of our AI offerings across all our ML6 domains, with a notable focus on the Customer Experience and Emerging domains.

In the Customer Experience (CX) Domain, your focus will be on redefining the user journeys and developing solutions that make people's lives easier. The Emerging domain is where we learn why and how we can use emerging technologies for a certain business problem.

This is a highly visible, high-impact role that blends deep technical leadership with business strategy and client-facing excellence, and plays a critical role in defining how ML6 delivers AI-powered solutions at scale.

You will:

• Define the Future: You will take ownership across an entire domain, business capability, or cross-project strategy (e.g., Emerging, or Cyber Offering), deciding where to invest our efforts, and how we approach the market.
• Win Big Deals: Act as a key technical differentiator in winning large deals by understanding complex customer challenges and translating them into compelling, AI-powered solutions in client conversations.
• Lead the Way: Guide some of our largest and most complex projects from ideation to successful delivery. Be responsible for the delivery excellence across projects by building reusable building blocks and fostering knowledge sharing.
• Solve the Toughest Problems: Act as a critical resource for project teams, helping them overcome complex technical, functional, and organizational challenges to ensure projects stay on track.
• Orchestrate and Direct: Motivate teams, facilitate clear communication, and set responsibilities to ensure collective efforts are aligned with strategic goals. Provide technical or functional guidance and support to tech leads.
• Be a Thought Leader: Share your expertise and operate as a thought leader both within ML6 by accelerating working groups and externalizing domain knowledge across the company, as well as externally through representing us at industry events.

The salary scale for principal roles typically ranges between €105k – €130k in Germany and the Netherlands; €92k – €106k for Belgium gross/year + additional benefits and bonuses. Your salary of course depends on your expertise and impact. This expertise will be translated to a level and scope group on our salary grid and will be defined during the hiring process.

FAQ

Can I work fully remote at ML6?

No. We deliberately follow a hybrid setup. We have a strong collaborative culture where we’d like to meet up at least a couple of times a week in one of our offices. Do know that ML6 provides a lot of flexibility in terms of working hours and how you schedule your agenda. Our offices are situated in Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Ghent.

What does a typical AI project look like?

This really depends on the scope of the project. A project can run for a couple of months, to even years. Our ML6ies work on projects together with a team of colleagues. This team can have different skills like data engineering, software, machine learning and project management to deliver top notch service to our clients. They sometimes work on different projects simultaneously or combine project work with an internal project or research topic. We are not an outsourcing firm.

How technically in depth can I go at ML6?

Our company stands for our engineering expertise. You’ll work alongside the most brilliant engineers, with a very in depth technical focus. Some use cases don’t need a very technical in depth solution, some do. At ML6 you can work in different domains (from GenAI to more classic ML), and on different types of client problems. We always make sure that our seniors are linked to more complex problems and to their domain of expertise (ex specific Cloud or Industry).

Is ML6 only a place for juniors to launch their career?

Definitely not. We indeed believe in accelerating young graduates in their career and bringing in new fresh perspectives, but the same applies for seniors.
