Job summary

University of Groningen invites applications for a 0.8-1.0 FTE postdoctoral researcher position in the BEAT project within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. The role focuses on inclusive urban mobility, examining barriers through everyday life and engaging with people with diverse physical and cognitive abilities.

Responsibilities include qualitative/mixed-method research, stakeholder workshops, and co-design of mobility solutions, with opportunities for publication and teaching at Groningen.

Qualifications

• PhD in Human Geography, Sociology, Urban Studies or related interdisciplinary field.
• Strong background in qualitative and quantitative methods and participatory approaches.
• Experience in interaction design, HCI, or related disciplines is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to publish in international journals and present at conferences.

Responsibilities

• Investigate how urban mobility barriers are experienced in daily life for people with disabilities and diverse cognitive abilities.
• Use qualitative and mixed methods including observations and interviews.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team across spatial planning, urban design, AI, and human-centered tech.
• Contribute to co-design and evaluation of inclusive mobility solutions and policy ideas.
• Engage with municipalities, societal partners, and user groups in workshops and co-creation sessions.
• Present findings at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Assist with teaching activities within the Faculty of Spatial Sciences where relevant.
