Utrecht University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Urban-Ocean Nexus project within the International Development Studies section of the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. The role focuses on social impacts of the urban-blue frontier expansion, mentoring PhD and Master students, and collaborating across an international team in the Netherlands and Indonesia.

The position is 0.8 FTE for 36 months with a gross monthly salary in the CAO NU scale (€3,706–€5,760) plus 8%

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant social science discipline such as development studies, human geography and planning, and political ecology.
• Strong international publication track record or potential related to urbanization, water and ocean development.
• Strong field research skills including interviewing, observation and writing.
• Evidence of impact activities beyond academia (media, film, social media).
• Ability to work independently and in an international team.
• Proficiency in Indonesian and English; willingness to learn Dutch.
• Extensive knowledge on development issues in Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Responsabilités

• Conduct field research in Indonesia and the Netherlands.
• Organize meetings at international conferences, symposiums and workshops.
• Publish results in international journals.
• Engage in impact activities to broaden networks and policy engagement.
• Conceive new research proposals.
• Teach master and bachelor courses and supervise theses (max 10%).
