Job summary

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) seeks a motivated postdoctoral researcher in biomechanics for a full-time, fully funded project on the clinical validation of a single-camera markerless motion capture system to assess and monitor motor impairments in stroke and Parkinson’s disease, including home measurements.

Based at TU Delft with measurements at clinical sites and at Model Health in Leuven, you will collaborate with clinicians and patients, use musculoskeletal modelling

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Human Movement Sciences or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with musculoskeletal modelling (OpenSim/AnyBody) and critical evaluation of outputs.
  • Experience with marker-based 3D motion capture (Vicon/Qualisys) and force plates from design to data processing.
  • Strong programming skills (Python and/or MATLAB) for data processing and stats; knowledge of OpenCap is a plus.
  • Experience with measurements in patient populations, ideally stroke or Parkinson’s disease.
  • Excellent communication and organization to work with clinicians and patients at home environments.
  • Willingness to travel to Model Health (Leuven) and clinical sites; English fluent; Dutch preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the accuracy of markerless outcome measures against marker-based 3D motion capture and musculoskeletal modelling.
  • Use musculoskeletal modelling to compare estimates, evaluate biomechanical plausibility, and perform sensitivity analyses.
  • Evaluate validity, meaningfulness, and acceptance of home measurements in collaboration with patients and clinicians.
  • Generate synthetic movement data from simulations to train markerless capture models.
  • Design and conduct home measurements with a single-camera prototype and compare with lab measurements.
  • Contribute to clinician-facing visualization with privacy-by-design protections.
