Job summary

Brightlands Future Farming Institute (BFFI) seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance autonomous crop monitoring and decision-support for Controlled Environment Agriculture. You will join a European project integrating plant sensing, data, and crop models in greenhouse and vertical farming contexts.

Based in Venlo at BFFI, you will collaborate with Maastricht University’s Sensor Engineering and DACS, contributing to advanced sensing, modeling, and potential teaching within the MSc Crop

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field such as plant science, crop science, agricultural engineering, or data science.
• Experience in crop modelling, plant sensing, or data-driven crop management.
• Experience translating research into practical applications with academic/industry partners.
• Experience with CEA, greenhouse cultivation or controlled environments.
• Strong English language skills (C1); Dutch is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development of non-invasive sensors and modeling for CEA.
• Collaborate with Maastricht University and DACS on interdisciplinary research.
• Validate sensing/decision-support tools in greenhouse and field settings.
• Assist teaching in MSc Crop Biotechnology and Engineering.
