Job summary

SMART Photonics in Eindhoven is seeking an ambitious R&D Engineer to advance photonic technologies on our platform. You will join the R&D team, work on photonic integrated circuits, and contribute across processing, validation, and integration in a hands-on manner.

You will perform wafer processing in our cleanroom, collaborate with engineers and scientists, and take ownership of technical activities as you gain experience, potentially leading development projects.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering (or related field).
• Hands-on wafer processing or cleanroom fabrication experience.
• Experience with etching, metal deposition, PECVD or related semiconductor processes.
• Familiarity with III-V materials (InP, GaAs) preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support development, processing, validation and integration of photonic integrated circuits.
• Perform hands-on wafer processing and chip fabrication in the cleanroom.
• Execute and optimize semiconductor processing steps and related fabrication activities.
• Develop and improve processing technologies for integration into the SMART Photonics platform.
• Collaborate with R&D teams and external partners; contribute to reports and EU project deliverables.
