Job summary

A leading quantum technology company in the Netherlands is seeking a Photonic Design Engineer. This full-time hybrid position requires expertise in photonics design and programming, with a minimum of one day in the office weekly. Photonic Design Engineer

QuiX Quantum is pioneering advancements in photonic quantum computing, a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Since our founding in 2019, we have achieved world records in quantum photonic processing. As we continue to expand, we're excited to add a Photonic Design Engineer to our team. This flexible, hybrid position requires a minimum of one day in the office each week and offers work locations in Germany or the Netherlands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate photonic components using tools like Lumerical.
  • Develop PIC layouts in IPKISS, GdsFactory, or similar.
  • Support internal PDK development and maintenance.
  • Automate and script simulations with Python or similar languages.
  • Collaborate with team members using Git for code management.
  • Integrate photonic designs into system architectures.
Required Qualifications:
  • MSc in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or related; PhD preferred.
  • 3+ years of photonics design experience, preferably in industry.
  • Experience in Lumerical and PIC layout tools (e.g., IPKISS, GdsFactory).
  • Strong Python skills and experience with Git.
  • Proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Lumerical API, PDK development, Silicon Nitride platforms, and quantum integrated photonics.

  • Excellent communicator and team player.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high quality.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of managing multiple projects independently.
