Job summary

Delft University of Technology invites a motivated PhD candidate to join the NWO-VIDI project Not-Just-Water to investigate extreme hydraulic events and their impact on (in)frastructures. You will run dam-break tests and instrumented building models to quantify loads and pressures on various elements, linking hydraulics and structural response.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Civil (Hydraulic) Engineering, Civil (Structural) Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in data processing, signal analysis and programming (Python/Matlab).
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform large-scale dam-break experiments with instrumented building models.
  • Capture loads and pressures on structural elements, horizontally and vertically.
  • Integrate experiments with numerical simulations (CFD-OpenFOAM, OpenSees) to study water-structure interaction.
