University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for a PhD candidate position in the Brain Plasticity group to study rmTBI effects on hippocampal neurogenesis and inflammation. The project combines mouse models, single-nucleus transcriptomics, and advanced imaging to uncover mechanisms of neurodegeneration.

The role requires a Master’s degree in biomedical sciences with neuroscience, hands-on animal experimentation, and strong interest in bioinformatics.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biomedical sciences with a neuroscience specialization or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory animals and/or molecular and cellular biology is required.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong interest in bioinformatics analysis of complex datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a PhD thesis within the official appointment duration (four years).
  • Design, perform and document experiments independently.
  • Set up and run bioinformatic pipelines to complement experimental work.
  • Be an active and responsible member of both research groups and discuss work in department meetings.
  • Take a leading role in writing manuscripts for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Participate in PhD training programme of the University of Amsterdam and ONWAR.
  • Assist teaching and supervision of Bachelor and Master students at the UvA.
