Job summary

Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites applications for a PhD position focusing on GPRC5B-targeting nanobodies, spanning discovery, engineering and preclinical evaluation. You will work within the MITH group and participate in the POLARIS network, contributing to research tools, tracers and therapeutics.

The project includes AI-generated candidates, secondments, and training across EU partners, with an anticipated defence at the end of the programme in Brussels.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in life sciences (preferably molecular sciences).
  • Background in molecular biology and experience in nanobody development and characterisation.
  • GPCR biology and signalling knowledge; practical wet-lab experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to critically evaluate results.
  • Fluent English; good communication and collaboration in an international setting.

Responsibilities

  • Select GPRC5B-targeting nanobodies from immune and synthetic libraries and evaluate AI-generated candidates.
  • Characterise nanobodies in vitro and in vivo for affinity, specificity and stability.
  • Investigate biodistribution of nanobodies in in vivo models.
  • Assess functional effects of nanobodies on GPRC5B signalling.
  • Collaborate with POLARIS partner organisations during secondments and contribute to development as research tools.
