Job summary

TU Delft in Delft invites applications for a four-year PhD on Multiscale Modelling of Sorption-Enhanced CO2 Hydrogenation Reactors. You will develop 3D multiphase models to predict hydrodynamics and heat/mass transfer in electrically heated, scalable reactors containing millions of particles.

The project is part of CO2URAGE, with collaboration from TU Delft, TNO and industry partners. You will compare CFD methods and validate your results through experimental work.

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in a related field is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with reactor modeling and multiphase CFD simulations.
  • Ability to formulate new research questions and work both independently and in a team.
  • Good communication skills; fluent in English, willingness to learn Dutch.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D multiphase models to predict hydrodynamics and heat/mass transfer in sorption-enhanced CO2 hydrogenation reactors.
  • Compare CFD approaches (CFD-DEM vs Eulerian CPM) and implement scalable models.
  • Collaborate with TU Delft, TNO and industry partners for validation and impact assessment.
  • Explore advanced heating concepts including electrical heating and microwave options.
