Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for a PhD position focused on cognitive guidance in XR to improve independent mobility for people with disabilities. The project blends XR design, cognitive modeling, AI, and wearable sensing to personalize training and real-world validation in public environments.

Successful candidates will collaborate across academia, accessibility groups, and industry partners, contributing to both research and impactful societal outcomes. English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

  • A MSc in HCI, Cognitive Science, CS, Mechanical Eng, Rehabilitation Eng, Industrial Design, Biomedical Eng or related field.
  • Experience with experiments involving human participants.
  • Interest/background in cognitive modeling or behavioral data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Affinity with teaching and supervising students.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate immersive XR experiences for safe navigation training.
  • Investigate how external stimuli affect decision making and motor behavior.
  • Develop XR guidance applications with real-time feedback.
  • Use wearable devices, ML and cognitive models to personalize training and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with academics, accessibility groups and industry partners.
  • Publish results and present findings in real-world settings.
