Job summary

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a PhD candidate to develop and analyse advanced process-based mathematical models of sediment dynamics in hyperturbid estuaries. You will extend a 2DV estuarine model with closures that link turbulence and sediment transport, using analytics and simulations to explore turbidity maxima and fluid mud formation.

The project progresses to a wider 3D description with lateral variability, requiring independent work and strong

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field with strong modelling background.
  • Experience developing mathematical models for geophysical flows and turbulence using analytical and numerical methods.
  • Strong teamwork and excellent communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyse new process-based mathematical models for sediment dynamics in hyperturbid estuaries.
  • Extend a 2DV estuarine model with novel turbulence closures accounting for turbulence-sediment interactions.
  • Use analytical techniques, asymptotic methods and numerical simulations to study turbidity maxima and fluid mud formation.
  • Collaborate within the iMose project and with Deltares and other researchers.
