University of Amsterdam invites applications for a PhD position within the DIViNE Doctoral Network. The successful candidate will conduct research on how democratization affects political violence, using quantitative analysis, surveys and fieldwork, and will participate in cross-national training and collaboration.

The role is 38 hours per week for up to three years, with mobility across partner institutions and a start around January 2027.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in political science or closely related discipline, obtained by start of employment.
• Excellent command of social science research methods, including quantitative methods and causal inference design.
• Interest to conduct fieldwork in the Global South.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Independent thinking and ability to work both independently and in a team.

Responsabilités

• Conduct PhD research on democratization and persistence of political violence, including quantitative analysis of data, surveys and fieldwork interviews.
• Co-author publications with project members.
• Engage in DIViNE training modules, PhD colloquia and research workshops.
• Teach Bachelor’s courses up to 10% of time.
• Assist with organization of project events and mobility across institutions.
