Job summary

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a PhD candidate position in the Distributed Systems group of the Department of Software Technology within the WALTZ project. Based in the EEMCS faculty, you will develop decentralized AI pipelines for public authorities and contribute to trustworthy AI research.

You will be supervised by Dr Jérémie Decouchant and work with TU Delft’s DelftBlue/DAIC GPU clusters.

Qualifications

  • MSc completed or near completion in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Solid foundation in machine learning and/or distributed systems.
  • Strong programming in Python with experience in a modern DL framework (e.g. PyTorch) on Linux-based GPU/HPC clusters.
  • Demonstrable interest in trustworthy AI: privacy, robustness, evaluation and reproducibility.
  • Ability to carry a research agenda over four years and meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; TU Delft English requirements may apply.
  • Collaborative attitude working in a large international consortium; able to explain work to non-academic stakeholders.
  • Commitment to open science: publishing code and benchmarks, contributing to open-source software.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake research on decentralized AI pipelines and evaluation methods for public authorities within the WALTZ project.
  • Publish results at top venues and contribute to open-source software.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision up to 15% of time; collaborate with European partners.
