Job summary

The University of Amsterdam invites applications for a four-year PhD under the REGULAIRE network in the Institute for Information Law (IViR). The project studies the legal position of researchers under the DSA and AI Act, focusing on exemptions, safeguards and governance while protecting academic freedom.

You will conduct doctrinal, normative and comparative work, including interviews and participatory design, and collaborate with the REGULAIRE team and associated labs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in law, political science, media and communication studies, or related fields.
  • Demonstrable interest in the relationship of law to digital technologies and services.
  • Skills or interest in qualitative research, such as interviews and participatory design.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to engage in international mobility, including secondments and network activities.
  • MSCA eligibility conditions must be met.
  • Creative, analytical, collaborative, and capable of organizing workshops and events.

Responsibilities

  • Refine research questions and design with supervision; prepare ethics, data-management and open-science materials.
  • Collect, manage and analyse data using approved methods.
  • Complete a doctoral thesis and related outputs under the doctoral programme.
  • Participate in training, cohort activities, and network-wide events; engage in secondments with EDMO.
  • Contribute to the AI, Media & Democracy Lab and the DSA Observatory and uphold open science and FAIR data practices.
