Paediatric Urology at Maastricht UMC+ is a tertiary referral centre serving an area that extends well beyond the province of Limburg. For more than 20 years, the department has played a pioneering role in the development of laparoscopic and robot-assisted techniques, as well as conventional surgical procedures, including innovative hypospadias repair techniques.
The future colleague will be expected to become fully involved in the outpatient, inpatient and surgical activities of the department, building on this tradition and, in time, contributing to further expertise or expanding the department’s areas of specialisation. Ample opportunity will also be provided for professional development in scientific research, undergraduate teaching, postgraduate medical training and management.
The role of paediatric urologist also includes involvement in the urological aspects of transitional care for patients moving from paediatric to adult healthcare. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in the department’s general on-call rota, which includes the treatment of adult patients. The proportion of the position devoted to adult patient care is estimated at 0.2 FTE.
The Department of Urology at Maastricht UMC+ is part of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. It occupies a unique position in the Netherlands, as it combines its academic responsibilities with the provision of general urological care for the surrounding region. This results in a highly diverse patient population.
Within the Department of Urology, we treat children with congenital and acquired disorders of the urogenital tract. Our approach focuses not only on individual patient care, but also on strong multidisciplinary collaboration, extending from prenatal diagnostics through to the transition to adult healthcare. The Department of Urology is actively involved in, and plays a leading role within, the Maastricht UMC+ focus areas of Neurourology and Neuromodulation.
Paediatric Urology team works closely with other specialties, including Paediatric Nephrology and Paediatric Surgery.
Paediatric Urology is one of the five core pillars of the Department of Urology at Maastricht UMC+. As part of the urology training programme, a resident is continuously assigned to the paediatric urology rotation or subspecialty placement. This ensures that medical education and knowledge transfer are firmly embedded in daily clinical practice.
As our new colleague, you will become part of a team of two paediatric urologists as well as the wider Urology medical staff. The department is also highly active in education and postgraduate training and conducts extensive scientific research, both within Maastricht UMC+ and in collaboration with the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University.
