Job Description
Why we are here

Together, we can fight exploitation in cocoa. Full stop.

Tony’s is an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes an impact. And to drive that mission forward, our Product team plays a key role in making sure our packaging is safe, sustainable, and supports responsible growth.

We're currently building a reliable 'source of truth' for all packaging specifications through our specification management system, SpecRight. And that's where you come in.

We're looking for a Packaging Development Intern to join our Product team in Amsterdam. If you're excited about packaging engineering, material science, data management, and making a real contribution to how a fast-growing company manages its packaging portfolio, this is your backstage pass.

Here’s What You’ll Learn
  • Packaging specification management. Learn how packaging specifications are structured, maintained, and managed within a specification management system. Support the migration and organization of technical packaging data and contribute to the continuous improvement of specification templates.
  • Packaging development. Gain an understanding of packaging development within the food industry through involvement in packaging validation activities and support during industrial trials. Learn how packaging performance is assessed and validated before implementation.
  • Data analysis & validation. Support the collection and organization of packaging data, validation documentation, and material specifications. Assist in compiling and reviewing results generated during packaging trials and validation activities.
  • Material science. Learn about the key technical and performance characteristics of packaging materials and how they are assessed, including corrugated board, paperboard, paper, aluminum, flexible packaging, and transport packaging.
  • Supplier collaboration. Learn how supplier-provided information is evaluated and used to accurately classify materials and maintain specification records, gathering from suppliers' technical documentation, declarations, and material data.
  • Packaging compliance. Build an understanding of packaging-related compliance requirements, including food contact material regulations such as Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. Learn how compliance documentation is reviewed and maintained within packaging specifications.
Here’s What You’ll Do

As we're in the middle of building a reliable source of truth for packaging specifications in SpecRight, most of your work will directly support this project, meaning real responsibility and real impact. You will:

  • Packaging Specification Data Migration & Knowledge Management — Support the population of Tony's packaging specification management system by consolidating technical documentation and material information from multiple sources into a single, structured database.
  • Packaging Data Analytics & Reporting Opportunities — Explore how packaging data stored in SpecRight can be leveraged for internal and external reporting requirements, including EPR, PPWR, B-Corp, and sustainability-related initiatives. Map available data, highlight gaps, and contribute ideas for future improvements in reporting capabilities.
  • Packaging Specification Development — Support the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications for renovation and NPD projects. Learn how technical packaging requirements are translated into formal specifications, working with NPD, Quality, and Master Data teams.
Job Requirements

Job requirements:

  • You're studying Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Packaging Technology, Material Technology, Industrial Design Engineering, or Food Technology.
  • Raise the bar. Challenge yourself and team Tony's to increase our ambition and to accomplish our mission. Make mistakes along the way and learn from them.
  • Believe wholeheartedly in Tony's mission. You live our core values: Outspoken, In it together, Makes you smile, Entrepreneurial and Raise the bar.
Here Are The Hard Facts
  • Starting on 1 February 2027, you'll be part of our Tony's team for 6 months.
  • We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in our Amsterdam office on average 3 days a week. More is fine!
  • You'll be living in the Netherlands and enrolled in a school for the duration of the internship.
Here’s What You Can Expect From Us
  • You'll be part of an enthusiastic team of driven colleagues who share your love for Tony's and our commitment. We're a fast-growing international company, and we believe in doing things differently.
  • As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to directly contribute to the success of Tony's Chocolonely. You'll be challenged to raise the bar and make a real impact in the world.
  • You'll have 14 vacation days over the six-month period, and we'll provide you with a monthly €550 internship allowance for a full-time (40h) internship.
  • Our office in Amsterdam Houthavens is a truly sweet workspace: you'll enjoy a fresh and tasty lunch, and plenty of snacks. We know how to work hard, but we also know how to have fun. And of course, you get to take home as much chocolate as you can carry.
Sounds like you?

If you're ready to take the chocolate industry to new heights with us, we'd love to hear from you!

Everybody is welcome to apply. From classics to limited editions, we know that different is what makes us great. At Tony's, we welcome everyone with equal enthusiasm, regardless of race, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, disability or veteran status. Crazy about chocolate, serious about people.

A note on AI -

AI is great at many things. But capturing what makes you you? Not so much. So when you're applying, we'd love to hear your voice. The things that excite you, the way you think, and a glimpse of your personality help us understand who you are far better than a perfectly crafted AI answer.
