Job summary

WSP Power & Energy in Arnhem seeks an Overhead Line Engineer to design and engineer overhead transmission lines and substations interfaces. You will perform structural analyses and prepare drawings and reports for multidisciplinary projects across the Netherlands and Europe.

The role requires 3–8 years of relevant experience, a Civil/Structural degree, and proficiency with PLS-CADD, Tekla and RFEM. English and Dutch language skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related discipline is required.
  • Experience with overhead transmission line design and associated structures is preferred.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, RFEM and Tekla is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer overhead lines and interfaces to substations.
  • Perform structural analyses for towers, foundations and conductors.
  • Produce technical reports, drawings and documentation for projects.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and manage defined work packages.
  • Support project planning, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Continue developing technical skills and knowledge.

Due to significant commercial growth in this sector, WSP Power & Energy is expanding its Civil Engineering Department. We are currently looking for an Overhead Line Engineer to join our team in Arnhem.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT’S INVOLVED?

We are looking for a professional to work within our Power and Energy department. In this role, you will be responsible for the engineering and design of overhead lines and interface structures that connect with substations.

You Will
  • Contribute to some of the most important infrastructure projects supporting the energy transition, helping grid operators expand and strengthen the electricity network to meet future demand, and supporting contractor clients in the delivery and commissioning of new infrastructure projects.
  • Contribute to the design of high-voltage transmission lines and substation interfaces.
  • Perform structural analyses and calculations for steel lattice towers, foundations, line loadings and conductor sizing.
  • Work with industry-leading software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER and RFEM.
  • Prepare technical reports, design drawings, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and take responsibility for defined work packages within multidisciplinary projects.
  • Support project planning, construction and installation phases.
  • Continuously develop your technical skills and knowledge.
YOUR TEAM

You will join our Structural Engineering & Design group in Arnhem, consisting of approximately 35 engineers and modellers working on overhead transmission lines, substations, and grid expansion projects across the Netherlands and Europe. At the heart of the group is a close-knit and highly experienced Overhead Lines team. You will collaborate with colleagues from multiple disciplines on the design and delivery of complex overhead line projects. It is a proactive and diverse team with a strong focus on collaboration. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of challenging and exciting projects across the Netherlands and Europe.

WHAT IF IT WAS YOU?
  • A highly motivated engineer eager to further develop their career within a global organisation, with approximately 3-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with the PLS-suite, Tekla, RFEM would be an advantage.
  • Strong technical skills and a willingness to continue developing them.
  • Fluency in English and in Dutch is preferred.
