Job summary
The Research and Process Engineer Optical Coatings at TNO in Delft designs, develops and optimizes optical coatings for lenses, mirrors and components, translating customer needs into robust, manufacturable solutions.
You will define cleaning, deposition, inspection and measurement steps, work hands-on with coating equipment and cleanrooms, and document risks and non-conformances to ensure reliable delivery.
Qualifications
- MSc or BSc/HBO degree in physics, engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrable experience with optical coatings and thin-film tech.
- Affinity with complex production equipment and hands-on work.
- Knowledge of coating performance metrics, measurement methods and documentation.
- Ability to translate customer/project requirements into manufacturable designs.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimize optical coatings for lenses, mirrors, components.
- Translate customer needs into robust coating solutions for manufacturability.
- Define cleaning, deposition, inspection, measurement and quality steps.
- Analyze results, fine-tune layer designs and improve process stability.
- Maintain equipment readiness, cleanroom readiness and process control.
