Job description

Introductie

As an Operating Engineer - Mechanical Auxiliary Systems within Operational Readiness Engineering - Offshore Netherlands, you help ensure that new offshore grid connection assets are ready to be safely and reliably operated and maintained after handover to Operations.

Based in Arnhem, you bring the future O&M perspective into projects during engineering, commissioning and handover. You do not own the system design; instead, you review and challenge solutions to ensure they are practical, maintainable, operable and suitable for long-term offshore operation.

An important part of Operational Readiness is also to capture, structure and retain critical technical knowledge from projects, contractors and vendors, and make sure this knowledge is available within TenneT's operational organisation.

Jouw rol

How will you help power the Netherlands? By making sure the offshore installations being built today can be operated and maintained safely and reliably for years to come. Within Operational Readiness, the Operating Engineer connects Project Delivery, Engineering and the future Operations organisation.

Technical solutions are reviewed from a practical O&M perspective, with maintainability, safety, availability and asset integrity at the centre.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Review maintainability and operability of mechanical systems, including accessibility, isolation, inspection, replacement and safe working conditions.
  • Identify operational risks and challenge technical solutions where future maintenance, availability or asset integrity could be affected.
  • Prepare for maintenance by contributing to maintenance strategies, job cards, spare parts requirements and inspection concepts.
  • Safeguard knowledge and documentation by capturing lessons learned, reviewing vendor and O&M documentation and ensuring that essential system knowledge is transferred into Operations.
  • Support commissioning and handover by reviewing test procedures, test results, outstanding issues and readiness for transfer to the operational organisation.
  • Improve future projects by translating operational experience and lessons learned into better requirements and Operational Readiness practices.

The technical scope is broad. It includes diesel generators and fuel and lubrication systems, cooling systems, pumps, platform and davit cranes, lifesaving equipment, freshwater, drainage and wastewater systems, as well as other mechanical utility systems. Interfaces with electrical, instrumentation, automation and SCADA systems are also part of the role.

You do not need to be the specialist in every individual system. What matters is a broad mechanical background, the ability to understand interfaces between systems and the judgement to assess what technical choices mean for Operations & Maintenance.

The role is not limited to Arnhem. Especially in the early phase, you will visit project locations and suppliers around 7 to 8 times per year. During the commissioning phase of the 2GW platform, you will also temporarily join offshore activities. This gives you a combination of engineering, technical reviews and hands-on exposure at project locations.

You will join the Mechanical discipline within Operational Readiness Engineering - Offshore Netherlands. Within this team, you work an average of 2 to 3 days per week in Arnhem, with Wednesday and Friday as the team’s fixed office days. Together with your colleagues, you make sure new assets are not only technically ready for handover, but also maintainable, operable and supported by the right knowledge and documentation.

We help ensure that knowledge gained during engineering, construction and commissioning is retained within TenneT and can be used throughout the full lifecycle of our offshore assets.

Jouw profiel & achtergrond

A broad technical perspective and a practical O&M mindset are more important in this role than being a specialist in every system. We are looking for someone who understands the technology, sees how systems interact and is confident enough to challenge a solution when it could work better for Operations.

You bring:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent technical knowledge and experience;
  • Experience with complex mechanical installations and integrated technical assets;
  • Practical knowledge of several mechanical auxiliary systems, such as generators, pumps, HVAC, cooling systems, cranes, hydraulics or fire-fighting systems;
  • Experience reading and reviewing P&IDs, technical drawings, system descriptions and vendor documentation;
  • Knowledge of maintenance, inspections, isolation, accessibility and equipment replacement;
  • A structured and pragmatic way of working;
  • The confidence to challenge technical solutions in a constructive and well-founded way;
  • Strong English communication skills. Dutch is an advantage.

Experience in Operations & Maintenance, commissioning, maintenance engineering, field engineering or asset support is highly relevant. A background in offshore platforms, maritime, offshore wind, oil & gas, energy or other complex technical installations also fits well with this position.

Collaboration is important, but the role also gives you room to form your own technical judgement and actively bring the O&M perspective into projects.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

At TenneT, you have the opportunity to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, you work on solutions that make the energy transition possible. We offer you:

  • A permanent contract with 2 months probation period, based on 40 hours per week.
  • A salary in scale 8, ranging from €4,276 to €8,443 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance and a 6% year-end bonus.
  • A solid pension through ABP, with TenneT paying 70% of your pension contribution.
  • 43 days of leave per year.

A good work-life balance and your personal development are important to us. That is why we offer flexible options such as:

  • Hybrid working, including travel, internet and home-working allowances.
  • Support for your wellbeing, including contributions towards a sports membership and health insurance.
  • Development opportunities through the TenneT Academy, helping you continue to grow your knowledge and skills.
