Job summary

Centre People Appointments in Amsterdam is seeking an Oil Trader to develop and manage energy trading activities, focusing on bunker oil and next‑generation fuels with international counterparties.

You will build supplier and customer relationships, negotiate terms, monitor markets and help establish new supply chains. English fluency and at least 3 years in oil/energy trading are required; hybrid work with three days in the office.

Job description

A well-established Japanese trading house is currently looking for an Oil Trader to join its Amsterdam office.

This position will focus on developing and managing international trading activities within the energy sector. The company is open to candidates with experience in bunker oil trading and/or developing supply structures for next-generation fuels.

You will be responsible for developing relationships with suppliers and customers, negotiating commercial terms, monitoring market trends and identifying new business opportunities. Depending on your experience, you may also play a key role in establishing new supply chains for alternative and next-generation fuels.

The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in oil, bunker fuel, energy or international commodity trading, with strong commercial and relationship-building skills.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and manage bunker oil and/or next-generation fuel trading activities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers and business partners internationally
• Negotiate purchasing and sales terms including pricing, specifications and delivery conditions
• Identify new customers, suppliers and business opportunities across international markets
• Develop and establish supply chains for next-generation and alternative fuels
• Monitor energy markets, price movements and industry trends to identify trading opportunitiesCoordinate documentation, transportation, shipping, insurance and other trade-related operations
• Manage commercial issues and provide regular business updates to management

Ideal Candidate

• At least 3 years’ experience in bunker oil trading, oil trading, energy trading and/or next-generation fuel supply development
• Experience in international trading, business development or commodity sales
• Knowledge of bunker fuels, marine fuels, biofuels, LNG, methanol, ammonia or other alternative fuels would be advantageous
• Experience developing new suppliers, customers or international supply chains
• Strong commercial, negotiation and relationship-building skills
• Business level of fluency in English
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
• Right to work in the Netherlands and willingness to travel internationally

Conditions

• Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands
• Working Style: hybrid, 3 days per week in the office
• Salary: €64,800 - €71,280 per year incl. 8% holiday allowance + performance-based bonus
• Job Type: full-time, initial 12-month contract with potential for extension
• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00-17:00
