Job summary

Van Oord in Gorinchem offers a graduation internship for Civil/Geotechnical Engineering students to explore driveability models for offshore pile installation. You will compare predictions with field data from CPTs and project records, and assess model robustness across glacial soils.

You will work under intensive supervision from experienced engineers and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on offshore wind projects, gaining practical insight for engineering decisions.

Qualifications

• A relevant university degree programme in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Creative, result-driven and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply recently developed pile driveability models to available CPT and project data.
• Compare predicted and measured pile installation behaviour.
• Assess model accuracy across soil conditions, with emphasis on glacial soils.
• Compare with established engineering driveability approaches where relevant.
• Investigate sensitivity of predictions to key soil and model parameters.
• Identify main limitations and potential improvement areas; assess robustness for future decisions.
