Job summary

TNO offers a 3-month internship in Rijswijk for MSc students in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering to extend CFD work on corrugated hoses and acoustic suppression. The project integrates field conditions, larger diameters, higher Reynolds numbers and liquid fractions to suppress singing via CFD analyses.

You will review literature, perform simulations with tools like ANSYS Fluent or OpenFOAM, and contribute to the methodology and academic writing.

Qualifications

• MSc student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong interest in fluid mechanics and numerical modelling.
• Experience with CFD software (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM or equivalent) is required.

Responsibilities

• Review literature on CFD modelling of thin films at large scale and high Reynolds.
• Extend existing research to field conditions (larger diameter, higher Reynolds, lower liquid fraction).
• Calculate acoustic performance of cavities with and without liquid and evaluate a field case.
