Job summary

TNO in the Netherlands seeks a MSc student in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering for an internship focused on CFD modelling of corrugated hoses to mitigate singing. You will extend work to field conditions and evaluate acoustics coupling.

You will review literature, extend research to field conditions, and calculate acoustic performance for field cases, with on-site work in Rijswijk and a 3-month duration.

Qualifications

• MSc student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Strong interest in fluid mechanics and numerical modelling.
• Experience with CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM or equivalent) is required.
• You can work independently and collaboratively on research tasks.

Responsibilities

• Review literature on CFD modelling of thin films at large scale and high Reynolds.
• Extend existing research to field conditions (larger diameter, higher Reynolds, lower liquid fraction).
• Calculate acoustic performance of cavity with and without liquid and evaluate a field case.
