Job summary

TNO zoekt een MSc-student werktuigbouw of aerospace voor een stage in Rijswijk. Je ontwikkelt CFD-FEA modellen voor thermowell vibratieanalyse en vergelijkt de voorspellingen met experimentele data.

Je onderzoekt literatuur, design standaarden (ASME PTC 19.3 TW) en voert data-analyse uit met Python/MATLAB. Familiariteit met ANSYS Fluent is een plus; je werkt zelfstandig aan relevante onderzoeksvragen en draagt bij aan praktijkgerichte oplossingen.

Qualifications

• MSc student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in fluid mechanics, structural dynamics and numerical modelling.
• Familiarity with Python and/or MATLAB for data processing.

Responsibilities

• Review literature on flow-induced vibrations of thermowells and relevant design standards.
• Study available experimental thermowell test data.
• Develop CFD models for selected thermowell geometries and operating conditions.
• Predict flow-induced excitation forces and the corresponding vibration response.
• Compare numerical predictions with experimental measurements.
• Determine the accuracy and practical limitations of CFD-FEA approaches.
