Job summary

Schuberg Philis is seeking a Mission Critical Security Engineer focused on threat hunting to protect our customers' most critical environments. You will secure complex application landscapes, tune detections, and develop practical security improvements using a custom MDR platform.

You will collaborate with engineering and SOC teams to translate threats into actionable detections, improve monitoring, and drive security posture across mission-critical systems.

Qualifications

• Solid engineering fundamentals: Linux, networking, and infrastructure behavior.
• Hands-on with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or similar).
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, and IaC tooling.
• Strong automation mindset and scalable problem solving.
• Experience parsing logs/telemetry to analyze system behavior.
• Proficient in Python and/or Bash scripting.
• Familiar with SIEM/log analytics: OpenSearch, Elastic, Splunk, MS Sentinel.
• Understanding of security principles: threat detection and response.
• Ability to distinguish normal vs abnormal behavior.
• Analytical, owner mindset; effective communication to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Threat intelligence & continuous improvement: translate security developments into hunts and detections.
• Detection engineering & threat hunting: develop and refine detection use cases for the environment.
• Platform collaboration: work with SIEM/SOAR MDR platform and automation teams to improve integrations.
• Collaborate with engineers to understand system behavior and validate detections.
• Define response actions, automation, and escalation paths for detections.
