Job description

About Chargee

Chargee is the open energy platform for households. We make solar panels, EVs, heat pumps, home batteries and smart plugs work together regardless of brand so families cut their energy bills, the grid gets the flexibility it needs, and the energy transition actually lands in the living room.

Tens of thousands of households use a Sparky today. We work with major energy suppliers, installers and grid operators. We are 22 people in Eindhoven, growing to around 28 by the end of the year.

The role

The Chargee app is the face of our platform for tens of thousands of households and so far it has been the work of one developer: Erwin. He built the consumer app, the white‑label variants for our energy partners, and the SDK layer that lets partners embed our technology in their own apps. That is too much for one person, and we know it.

You become mobile developer number two. You’ll jointly be working on all topics related to mobile. Together you take ownership of the consumer app with the Sparky onboarding funnel as your first major assignment. Every user who drops off while connecting their Sparky is a household we lose; your job is to make that number shrink. This is not legacy maintenance, it is the most customer‑visible work at Chargee.

The mobile team is part of the product team and works in a trifecta of three disciplines: product (Ronald, senior product designer your day‑to‑day sparring partner), backend & embedded (Ivo, Tycho, Konstantin, Lesley, Chris, Gilles and Bart) and customer (Jesse, Robbert and Joost). What customers say, what the product should become and what is technically possible come together in that triangle and you sit right in the middle of it.

What you will do

  • Own the consumer app. Features, releases, quality, app store reviews. You are accountable for the state of the app together with Ronald (senior product designer) and the product owner.

  • Improve the Sparky onboarding funnel. Wi‑Fi provisioning, pairing with the smart meter, first‑use experience. We instrument the funnel, you build the fixes. This is measurable work: activation rate goes up.

  • Raise the EV charging experience to partner grade. Our energy partners roll out smart charging to their customers through our app layer. The bar is high and you help clear it.

  • Surface integrations in the app. Inverters, home batteries, heat pumps, EV chargers, 100+ device integrations that need to be understandable and controllable in the app.

  • Work in the trifecta. Daily collaboration with product (Ronald), backend (Konstantin, Lesley, Chris, Gilles, Bart, modern TypeScript) and customer (Jesse, Robbert, Joost). Customer signals, product decisions and engineering come together at one table short lines, no middle layers.

  • Build the mobile foundation with Erwin. CI/CD, release process, testing strategy, architecture decisions. The two of you define how mobile development works at Chargee.

What you bring

  • 3-6+ years of mobile development, with apps that actually run in production. You have shipped to the App Store and Play Store, managed releases, and lived with the consequences of your own decisions.

  • Experience with our stack. Flutter / Kotlin / Dart and native iOS + Android

  • Comfortable with hardware‑connected apps. BLE or Wi‑Fi provisioning, device pairing, dealing with flaky connections and angry edge cases. You do not need to have done all of it, but it should not scare you.

  • Product sense. You think in users and funnels, not just tickets. If a screen is confusing, you say so even if it is not your screen.

  • Independent within a small team. There is no mobile lead above you. You and Erwin are the mobile team. That means freedom and responsibility.

  • Good English. The working language in engineering is English. Dutch is a plus (useful for in‑app copy and customer context), not a requirement.

What we do not need

  • Experience in energy or IoT — the team and the product documentation will teach you what you need

  • A completed degree — we look at what you have built, not at your diploma

What Chargee offers

  • The most customer‑visible work at Chargee your commits are on the phones of tens of thousands of households within a week

  • A product prosumer users are genuinely enthusiastic about active community on Homey, Tweakers, Reddit

  • Direct collaboration with a senior designer (Ronald), the founders and engineering no five layers

  • Modern stack and tooling; engineering at Chargee uses AI agents wherever they speed up the work

  • Market conform salary + 8% holiday allowance, pension plan, commuting allowance, 25 vacation days, laptop

  • Hybrid work from Eindhoven (4 days in the office)

  • 22 colleagues today, around 24 by the end of the year small enough that you matter from day one

Residence in the Netherlands is required. Speaking or understanding part of Dutch has a strong preference.
