Outtask Group in Amsterdam is seeking a Medior Java Developer to join a compact development team and build reliable backend services in a modern microservices landscape. You will write code and contribute to design, testing, deployment and continuous improvement of critical applications.
You will develop and maintain microservices and REST APIs using Java 21 and Spring Boot, implement event-driven communication with Kafka and Azure Event Hub, and deploy on Kubernetes/AKS.

You will primarily write code and develop dependable backend services within a modern microservices landscape. Working from the Amsterdam area in a hybrid setup, you will contribute to the design, testing, deployment and continuous improvement of critical applications.
You develop and maintain microservices and REST APIs using Java 21 and Spring Boot.
You implement event-driven communication between services using Azure Event Hub and Kafka.
You deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
You write automated tests with Testcontainers, WireMock, Mockito and MockMvc, including Kafka-based tests.
You apply hexagonal architecture, SOLID principles and domain-driven design (DDD).
You contribute to infrastructure as code using Terraform.
You investigate issues involving communication, consistency, message ordering, retries, dead-letter queues and idempotency.
You contribute to monitoring, deployment and rollback strategies within a team of six to eight developers.
You share ideas, review solutions and take ownership of improvements from development through to deployment.
You are a Medior Java Developer who enjoys hands-on engineering and is curious about how systems work beneath the surface. You work effectively on your own while actively collaborating with colleagues in a small team and contributing thoughtfully to technical decisions.
You have bachelor’s or master’s-level thinking and several years of experience as a Java Developer at medior level.
You have professional experience with Java, Spring Boot and building REST APIs.
You have an affinity with event-driven systems such as Kafka and Azure Event Hub, including topics such as dead-letter queues, message retries, ordering and idempotency.
You have knowledge of, or a genuine interest in, Kubernetes and AKS, microservices architecture, deployments and rollback strategies.
You are curious about technical details such as Kafka serialisation and understand the practical challenges of distributed systems.
You work independently, while deliberately seeking collaboration and sharing information within a small development team.
