Job summary

Van Storm in Amsterdam invites a Project Engineer – Mechanical to own the mechanical engineering scope for complex, custom-built superyachts from concept through design and basic engineering. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary project team, coordinating mechanical activities, guiding engineers and designers, and ensuring systems integrate with the overall yacht design.

The role requires +5 years in project engineering or as a discipline lead in yacht building, with a BSc/MSc in Mechanical

Qualifications

• +5 years in project engineering or as a discipline lead in yacht building (superyachts preferred).
• BSc./MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of onboard mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of safety/regulatory standards (LR, REG LY Code, SOLAS) and FEM/vibration analyses.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations and specifications with AutoCAD and 3D design tools.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Available for full-time in the Amsterdam Area.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope, including general arrangements, system layouts and space allocation for HVAC, piping, engines, and other onboard mechanical systems.
• Coordinate the development and delivery of mechanical drawings, calculations and technical specifications, using AutoCAD and 3D design tools throughout design and basic engineering phases.
• Implement and safeguard the quality of mechanical systems, ensuring designs are feasible and integrated into the yacht design.
• Lead and guide a small team of 2–3 Mechanical Engineers and designers/draftsmen, coordinating priorities and deliverables.
• Coordinate the mechanical design from concept through final design, in collaboration with Naval Architecture, Structural, Electrical and other disciplines.
• Act as a technical point of contact for the mechanical scope, resolving technical and integration matters with internal teams, designers, suppliers and partners.

Your opportunity:

As a Project Engineer – Mechanical, you will take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope for complex, custom-built superyachts, from concept through design and basic engineering. Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will coordinate the mechanical engineering activities, guide engineers and designers, and ensure that mechanical systems are effectively integrated with the wider yacht design.

What you will do:

• Take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope, including general arrangements, system layouts and space allocation for HVAC, piping, engines, etc.and other onboard mechanical systems.

• Coordinate the development and delivery of mechanical drawings, calculations and technical specifications, working with AutoCAD and 3D design tools throughout the design and basic engineering phases.

• Implement and safeguard the quality of mechanical systems, ensuring designs are technically feasible, consistent with specifications and properly integrated into the overall yacht design.

• Lead and provide project-based guidance to a small team of 2–3 Mechanical Engineers and designers/draftsmen, coordinating priorities, progress and engineering deliverables.

• Coordinate the mechanical design from concept through to final design, working closely with Project Engineers and the Naval Architecture, Structural, Electrical and other engineering disciplines.

• Act as a technical point of contact for the mechanical scope, communicating and resolving technical and integration matters with internal teams, designers, suppliers and external project partners.

What you already have:

• +5 years of Project Engineering or as a mechanical discipline lead / coordinator in yacht building or shipbuidling design and engineering preferrably superyachtprojects
• BSc. or MSc.in MechanicalEngineering
• Strong understanding of onboard mechanical systems, such as HVAC, piping, propulsion/engines and machinery, including their spatial integration and arrangement.
• Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (LR, REG LY Code, SOLAS), and FEM/vibration analyses
• Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations and specifications, with good knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D design tools.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills since you will be involved in communication with designers, owner representatives, subcontractors and co‑creators
• Available forfull-time in the Amsterdam Area
