Job summary

cosine, a world-leading developer of space instrumentation, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design precise mechanical assemblies for space instruments. You will translate concepts into robust 3D models, ensuring flawless cleanroom assembly and manufacturability, contributing to systems that endure extreme conditions and deliver trusted data for space exploration.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, move concepts to validated hardware, and support vibration testing and precision

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in high-tech/precision engineering.
  • Hands-on 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks; GD&T proficiency required.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical system design and cleanroom workflows.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing techniques and tolerances.
  • Familiarity with FEA (Abaqus) and Python scripting a plus.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies optimised for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Develop mechanical designs for cleanroom environments with high precision and repeatability.
  • Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from concept to validated hardware.
  • Support assembly and integration of high-precision components and systems.
  • Contribute to Silicon Pore Optics assembly process development.
  • Perform and support vibration and shock testing.
  • Work with CMMs for inspection and validation; improve assembly processes.
