Job description

About the role

Join Strohm as Our Next Mechanical Design Engineer!

Do you enjoy turning mechanical concepts into equipment you can actually see, build, and improve on the shop floor?

As our Mechanical Design Engineer at Strohm, you help shape and improve the equipment behind our production process. From new machinery to upgrades of existing systems, you combine mechanical expertise with a practical, hands-on approach to make our production safer, more reliable, and more efficient.

This is a true design-to-reality role. You won't just work behind a desk—you'll see your designs come to life on the shop floor, test how they perform, and use those insights to make them even better.

Working closely with Production, Maintenance, multidisciplinary engineering teams, and external suppliers, you'll solve technical challenges and contribute directly to the continuous development of our manufacturing operation.

In this role, you will:
  • Design equipment upgrades and next-generation production equipment, including strength and performance calculations;
  • Create detailed CAD drawings for manufacturing and assembly and perform technical assessments of systems, designs, drawings, and project proposals;
  • Prepare technical documentation for design reviews, FAT/SAT, specifications, CE compliance, maintenance, and operating instructions;
  • Develop cost estimates and budget proposals throughout the concept and detailed design phases;
  • Work with suppliers on the manufacture of parts and equipment, including small- and large-scale turnkey systems, and coordinate multidisciplinary contractors during onsite installation projects;
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely by identifying and assessing risks before, during, and after onsite activities.
What you bring:

Experience designing mechanical assemblies with linear or rotary motion, including elements such as guide rails, hinges, end stops, or locking mechanisms, is an advantage.

  • A bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design Engineering, or a related technical discipline, combined with at least 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and supporting production machinery in an industrial or manufacturing environment;
  • Excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills (e.g. AutoCAD, Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor), including technical drawings, machining tolerances, NEN-ISO 2768, and weld symbols;
  • Experience with ERP and product data/lifecycle management systems (PDM/PLM); experience with ISAH and Windchill is an advantage;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; basic Dutch for communicating with Engineers and Operators is an advantage.
  • Experience designing mechanical assemblies with linear or rotary motion, including elements such as guide rails, hinges, end stops, or locking mechanisms, is an advantage.
Why join us?
  • Salary between €4000,- and €6000,- based on 40 hours, experience and qualifications;
  • 32 days of paid leave per year (based on 40 hours);
  • Be part of an innovative, fast-paced company with global impact;
  • Strohm’s Pension plan;
  • Discounted gym membership;
  • Bike lease plan through the company;
  • Commuting allowance or NS Business Card;
  • Company-provided phone;
  • Hybrid working model (office and home-based).
