Job summary

Royal Dirkzwager is seeking a Maritime Operator to join our 24/6 on-site operations team in Maassluis. You will monitor marine traffic, coordinate information, and provide real-time intelligence from the control room at the Port of Rotterdam.

The onboarding lasts 6–8 weeks with mentorship from an experienced operator, after which you work independently. Strong English skills are essential; Dutch is a plus and relocation is not required.

Qualifications

• MBO+ level education (maritime background advantageous but not required).
• Excellent command of English; Dutch is a plus.
• Calm, client-focused with strong prioritisation skills.
• Rotating 6-shift schedule with 27 shifts over an 8-week cycle, including standby weeks.
• Experience as a 2nd or 3rd Officer is advantageous.
• Live within commuting distance of Maassluis; rotating shifts include short-notice call-outs.
• Legal right to work in the Netherlands; visa sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring offshore platforms in the North Sea via VHF radio.
• Tracking vessels using AIS, plotting courses, and monitoring routes.
• Coordinating with the Netherlands Coastguard on maritime violations.
• Collecting and verifying critical maritime data around the Port of Rotterdam and updating www.ship2port.com.
• Providing real-time maritime intelligence to offshore clients.
• Acting as a point of contact outside office hours.
• Supporting emergency response operations at sea with experienced colleagues.
