The Next Chapter BV is seeking an experienced Development Lead to bridge technology, the team, and management. You will drive high-quality software while nurturing team growth and optimizing development cycles.

Lead in three pillars: Leadership & Management, Technical Excellence, and Operational Control, shaping product development with an AI-first mindset across a growing European SaaS platform.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software development teams and complex projects.
• Strong command of PHP, JavaScript/Typescript, and modern web stacks.
• Expertise in microservices architectures and cloud (AWS).
• Proficient in MySQL databases and containerisation (Docker).
• Proven ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsabilités

• Coach and mentor team members; conduct regular 1-on-1s and performance reviews.
• Lead team meetings; manage workload and resource planning.
• Drive AI-first mindset; lead adoption of AI assistants, agents and skills.
• Oversee HR matters and People Ops collaboration for the team.
• Ensure technical alignment and adherence to security and compliance guidelines.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to refine requirements and translate to tasks.
• Identify workflow improvements and prepare technical refinements or POCs.

What will you be doing?

As our Development Lead, you are the linchpin between technology, the team, and management. You are not only responsible for developing high-quality software, but you also play a crucial role in the growth of your team members and the overall effectiveness of our development cycles. Your focus rests on three main pillars: Leadership & Management, Technical Excellence, and Operational Control.

Your key responsibilities:

• Coaching & Mentoring: You conduct weekly 1-on-1 meetings with your direct reports. You coach team members on their daily tasks and serve as a mentor for their professional and personal development.
• Team Performance: You lead operational team meetings and are responsible for the team's efficiency and effectiveness. You manage the workload and resource planning.
• AI-First Mindset: You are active in developing with AI assistants, Agents, and Skills. You are enthusiastic about the transformation toward AI-driven development and are capable of leading your team through this transition.
• HR & Resource Planning: You conduct performance reviews, handle HR matters (such as leave and absence), and collaborate with People Ops on HR-related issues within your team.
• Technical Alignment: You ensure alignment between different teams and oversee that everyone adheres to established compliance and security guidelines.
• Product Development: You work closely with Product Managers to refine PRDs (Product Requirements Documents), devise technical solutions, and translate these into concrete development tasks.
• Quality & Workflow: You identify and communicate improvements in the workflow. Additionally, you prepare technical refinements for key issues (e.g., through POCs or documentation).

What do we expect from you?

• Experience: You have a proven track record in software development and are accustomed to taking the lead in complex projects. Key stack characteristics: PHP, Javascript / Typescript, Vue.js, Microservices, AWS, MySQL, Docker.
• Leadership: You have experience managing a team and gain energy from mentoring and guiding people.
• Technical Depth: You are capable of analyzing complex problems, applying in-depth domain knowledge, and communicating clearly about these topics to stakeholders (such as the Product Manager).
• Stay Up-to-Date: You continuously maintain your technical knowledge and stay informed about the latest trends in software development, particularly AI agentic development.
• Quality-Oriented: You have experience with DevOps processes (such as CI/CD), infrastructure management, and monitoring system performance.
• Strong Administration: You ensure accurate WBSO administration (R&D tax credit documentation) and keep documentation in codebases and Confluence up-to-date.
