Job summary

The Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation in The Hague seeks a dedicated TOA to support its Science departments (Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science and Physics). You will prepare experiments, ensure safe demonstrations, and assist teachers during practical lessons at the international school campuses in The Hague.

We offer a 0.6 FTE contract (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) with a Dutch CAO VO salary scale 6, pro-rata.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Biology, Chemistry or Physics or an MBO Level 4 Technical Education Assistant qualification.
• Sound knowledge of science education in a school environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Good ICT skills with educational technology.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and procedures.
• Recent TOA experience in secondary education is desirable.
• Experience in international/intercultural education is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• As a TOA you will assist the Science departments with tasks such as preparing experiments and demonstrations.
• Test experiments to ensure they can be delivered in class.
• Advise teachers on practical activities and safety procedures.
• Develop and refine practical experiments and demonstrations.
• Maintain laboratory stock and order equipment and consumables.
• Support teachers during larger classes and supervise practical lessons.
• Keep a clean, organized and well-equipped lab with accurate inventory and labeling.

When you work in ESH's Science Departments as a lab assistant, you will be part of a multicultural team consisting of four TOAs supporting passionate science teachers in four language sections. Our teachers aim to deliver engaging practical lessons in Biology, Integrated Science, Chemistry and Physics, and need your support to prepare the materials in advance. We are looking for a lab assistant able to support preparing experiments in Biology and Integrated Science, but who can also help in Physics or Chemistry when required.

• Working pattern: 0.6 FTE (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)
• Salary indication: minimum €2672 and a maximum of €3610 (scale 6, pro-rata)

As a TOA youwillassistthe Science departments (Biology,Chemistry,Integrated ScienceandPhysics) with different tasks such as:

• Preparing experiments and practical demonstrations.
• Testing experiments where necessary to ensure they can be delivered successfully in class.
• Consulting with teachers and providing advice on practical activities and demonstrations.
• Developing and refining practical experiments and demonstrations.
• Advising teachers on laboratory safety procedures and classroom safety rules.
• Carrying out minor repairs to laboratory equipment and materials.
• Managing laboratory stock and ordering equipment and consumables.
• Attending meetings with teachers and fellow TOAs.
• Maintaining a clean,organisedand well-equipped laboratory, includingaccurateinventory management and labelling.
• Supporting teachers in supervising larger classes during practical lessons.

Requirements

• Relevant qualifications in a science discipline (such as Biology, Chemistry or Physics) and/or a Technical Education Assistant qualification (MBO Level 4 or equivalent).
• Sound knowledge of science education within a school environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Good ICT skills and the ability to work with educational technology.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and health and safety procedures.
• Recent experience as a technical teaching assistant (TOA) in secondary education is desirable.
• Experience in an international and/or intercultural educational environment is an advantage.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
