Job summary

Rabobank is seeking a skilled DevOps/Platform Engineer to design, deploy, and optimize Kong API Gateway across AKS, EKS and OpenShift in a hybrid environment. You will manage Kong components, write scripts, and monitor performance to ensure scalable and secure API traffic.

This role offers a mix of cloud and on‑prem deployments within a large financial institution. You will collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Application teams, uphold API standards, and continuously improve automation,

Qualifications

3+ years in DevOps/Platform Engineer role.
Good experience with Kong API Gateway preferred.
Experience with Kubernetes (AKS/EKS), Azure DevOps Pipelines and Networking.
Experience with Openshift and container deployments.
Proficiency in Bash, Python, Terraform and AzureCLI scripts.
Experience with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps.
Familiarity with API security best practices (OAuth2, mTLS, JWT).
Strong troubleshooting skills in containerized environments.

Responsibilities

Design and implement Kong API Gateway solutions in AKS, EKS and OpenShift environments.
Manage the lifecycle of Kong components including Kong Gateway, Kong Ingress Controller, and plugins.
Maintain and develop scripts/pipelines for managing our infrastructure in cloud and on-premises, configurations, and metrics gathering.
Monitor and troubleshoot API traffic, latency, and gateway performance issues.
Collaborate with DevOps, Security, and Application teams to define API standards, policies, and governance.
Ensure secure API exposure through authentication, rate limiting, logging, and auditing.
Maintain and upgrade Kong Gateway versions and associated infrastructure components.
Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
