Job description

Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges? You’ve come to the right place.

Consulting: Knowledge Analyst - Energy Solutions

You will help clients in the energy sector and beyond to improve operations and make strategic decisions for the future.

You will provide daily problem-solving, structuring, modeling, and analytical support for our Energy Solutions tools and analyses. You will gather information to develop these tools/benchmarks and synthesize findings into McKinsey-formatted products, such as complex models, summary reports, and standalone presentations for internal and external audiences.

You will collaborate with other experts to solve client problems, deepening your knowledge and refining your analytical and thought-partnership skills.

You’ll have the opportunity to gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to the firm. You will receive exceptional training as well as frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues.

You will be based in our Amsterdam office, joining the Energy Solutions team within McKinsey’s Global Energy & Materials practice.

As a global leader in energy intelligence and analytics, Energy Solutions leverages distinctive market perspectives (incl. the Global Energy Perspective), cutting-edge data and technology to empower organizations across the entire energy value chain. Our team of world-class consultants, analysts and data scientists transform data into actionable insights, enabling clients to make well-informed strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. We help organizations capture opportunities, manage risks, and enhance performance.

Your Growth

Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.

In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues—at all levels—will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you'll receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your growth in ways you won’t find anywhere else.

When you join us, you will have:

  • Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, we value your ideas and contributions. You’ll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions, all while upholding our unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: We provide a comprehensive benefits package to enable holistic well-being for you and your family.
Your Qualifications and Skills
  • University degree in management, engineering, economics, geosciences, petroleum engineering, or other disciplines with a quantitative or technical focus
  • Experience, internships and/or full-time roles, in the oil and gas sector (upstream, midstream, or downstream), including exploration and production, refining, petrochemicals, fuel retail, lubricants or trading
  • Strong interest in the energy industry, with a particular focus on oil and gas operations, energy markets, and the energy transition; familiarity with topics such as decarbonization is a plus
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and engage with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Capacity to excel in a fast-paced, results-driven team setting, demonstrating a steep learning curve and a strong commitment to coaching and development
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with a strong aptitude for working with numbers and quantitative models
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Tableau
  • Experience with modeling capability tools such as Python, R, or VBA is a plus
  • Availability to travel
  • Effective communication skills to share complex ideas in English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing
