As a Junior VAT Specialist, you will support the delivery of VAT compliance services for a diverse portfolio of national and international clients. Working alongside experienced VAT and Accounting professionals, you will assist with the preparation and submission of VAT-related filings, help ensure compliance with Dutch and EU VAT regulations, and contribute to providing high-quality client service.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical VAT knowledge in an international environment while gaining hands-on experience with compliance processes, client communication, and indirect tax regulations. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative team, receive guidance from experienced colleagues, and build a strong foundation for a career in VAT and indirect taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and submission of Dutch VAT returns for a diverse portfolio of national and international clients.
- Support the preparation and filing of EC Sales Listings, Intrastat reports, and other VAT-related compliance obligations.
- Review VAT data and identify discrepancies, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Respond to basic VAT-related queries from clients and internal stakeholders with support from senior team members.
- Assist with VAT registrations, amendments, deregistrations, and supplementary filings.
- Support communication with the Dutch Tax Authorities regarding VAT correspondence and compliance matters.
- Collaborate with Accounting Officers and VAT colleagues to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
- Monitor VAT legislative developments and share relevant updates within the team.
- Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for compliance filings.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities within the department.
- Escalate technical questions, compliance risks, or client concerns in a timely manner.
- Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with internal quality standards and deadlines.
Key Requirements
- Completed or currently pursuing an HBO or university-level education in Tax Law, Fiscal Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in VAT, tax, accounting, finance, or a related administrative environment.
- Strong interest in VAT, indirect taxation, and compliance services.
- Basic understanding of Dutch VAT legislation and EU VAT principles is advantageous.
- Experience with VAT returns, EC Sales Listings, or Intrastat reporting is considered a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English.
- Ability to work accurately and effectively under deadlines.
- Proactive, hands-on, and solution-oriented approach to work.
- Eagerness to learn and develop technical VAT knowledge.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with VAT registrations, OSS, e-invoicing, financial statements, or tax compliance software is considered an advantage.
