Job summary

AtS&T in Delft is seeking a Junior/Medior Flight (Embedded) Software Engineer to join the Space Systems team, developing and verifying on-board software for satellites.

Work spans mission integration, Earth Observation, secure communications, and space systems engineering; you will implement and test software under tight hardware constraints, interfacing software with hardware. You will grow into ownership, contributing to architecture, tests, and documentation across systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of embedded/low-level software experience or strong study/internship track record.
• Experience with real-time applications (Linux/RTOS).
• Educational background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems.
• Proficient in C, C++, Python; working knowledge of Rust.
• Experience with test-driven development, CI/CD workflows, and Git.
• Experience with UART and Ethernet.
• Fluent English; on-site availability in Delft (onsite).

About thisjob

We are currently looking for a Flight Software Engineer to join the team in Delft and work on advanced satellite systems.

You will join a team whose work spans mission integration, Earth Observation, secure communications, and space systems engineering. As a Flight Software Engineer, you will develop and verify on-board software that routes and processes data on satellites.

You will help with the development and verification of satellite on-board software for data routing and processing. Since you're working on flight software, will be tight hardware constraints. Due to the nature of the job, the work has to be fully reliable, since it cannot be fixed once in orbit. You will implement and test well-defined parts of the software, working to an architecture set together with senior engineers. You will work at the interface between software, systems, and hardware, and you will take ownership as you grow into the role. Your work will matter and make a significant impact to the programme from day one.

• You will develop code that integrates several complex interfaces and routes data between them.

• You create unit tests, perform system-level testing, and support hardware-in-the-loop setups to verify software functionality.
• You write clean, maintainable code and produce clear technical documentation to support design reviews and system audits.
• You work closely with other engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions (electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering).

Requirements

• You have at least 2 years of experience in embedded/low level software development, or a strong track record from study and internships.
• You have experience/an understanding of real-time applications, such as Linux and RTOS.
• You have an educational background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems or another relevant field.
• You are proficient in C, C++, and Python, and have experience with Rust.
• You have experience with test-driven development, CI/CD workflows, and Git.
• You have experience with UART and/or Ethernet.
• You have a fluent command of the English language.
• You are able to come on-site to the office in Delft. The possibility to work from home is limited.

Nice-to-have's:

• Experience with spacecraft flight software, or comparable vehicle software requiring a high level of reliability.
• Experience with real-time Linux and RTOS.
• Familiarity with networking technologies such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and FTP.
• CAN-bus, I2C, SPI, SpaceWire.
• Experience with CCSDS and ECSS space protocols such as CFDP and PUS.
• Familiarity with MISRA / AUTOSAR guidelines and/or ECSS coding standards.
• Experience with encryption and security.
• Experience with Rust.
• Working proficiency in Dutch.
